Here are some steps you can take to start The Homework Club in your community: We all know from hard experience that visionary after school programs tend to be here today and gone tomorrow. Let's get off this merry-go-round and make realistic plans for success right from the beginning.
1. Talk to parents, guardians, grandparents and concerned neighbors. Find out if others in your community are interested in having Homework Club located at your school. Working in larger numbers gives you greater strength and influence.
Create an "Email Tree". Email parents from your middle school asking if they have a need for an academic tutorial program after school. Email our website link. Be sure to have each parent forward the letter to other parents they know would be interested.
2. Talk to your school principal and/or teachers. Principals often control the use of school facilities and equipment after school. School teachers and the principal can also be a great help in getting people together to start an after school program. Principals respond to their school's teachers, so work with both principals and teachers to seek assistance in building support for Homework Club.
Submit your email findings and ask the principal to review The Homework Club website: www.homeworkclub.org
3. Speak to teachers that might be interested in joining our staff as The Homework Club Teacher Liaison and Head Tutor.
Head Tutors can make $20 - $40 an hour after school depending on enrollment. For new teacher or a laid off teacher, this additional income can make a world of difference.
4. Stay in communication with your fellow parents through your school bulletins and your "Email Tree".
