 The Homework Club is a California non-profit education agency that works in partnership with schools and districts to provide after school small-group academic mentoring for struggling middle school students. The Homework Club meets after school for 2 hours. All sessions are held Monday through Thursday on school campuses. The start time of academic mentoring sites in your area is dependent upon the school's dismissal time; on average, sessions start around 3:00 PM.
 
We have three types of academic / life skills mentoring positions - Organizational Coach (site managers), Academic Tutor, and Life Skills Coach. Please review each job description carefully to decide the most suitable one for you. At the bottom of each description, you will find a link to the appropriate employment form. Academic Tutor Job Description
Tutors need to be available for a minimum of two afternoons per week.
 
The tutor's role is to help students:
  • Achieve better mental focus, time management, and organization skills.
  • Complete all homework assignments with a high level of quality.
  • Improve writing and math skills.
  • Help form a positive social environment with other Homework Club students.
  • Learn to feel like respected and valued members of the school community.
Tutors also write daily progress reports to families by email and interface with school faculty and staff. All Homework Club Staff are required to attend Homework Club parties in San Rafael. Tutors may be asked to substitute at different sites in the same general area.
 
All Coaches are paid $20 per hour for the academic and life skills mentoring sessions. Tutors are also compensated $10 for completion of each training module. Each site meets for 2 hours Monday through Thursday, this means that there is a maximum of four academic mentoring sessions and 8 hours of work per week.
