 Cirriculum: Elementary vs. Middle School
1.  How much will my student get done at
Homework Club?
Within a month, most students learn to complete that day's two hardest assignments --- but some students need longer to build the necessary focus and organizational skills. The easier assignments will be left to do at home --- coloring a map for social studies, for example. More often than not, the two hardest assignments come from the two basic academic food groups: math and language arts.
2.  Will my student's homework be corrected?
Tutors check homework but students are responsible for all corrections. We teach students how to spot and correct their own mistakes, so in time they can become independent and resourceful learners. We don't do it for them --- we empower students to do it on their own!
3.  How long will it take for my student's grades to improve?
Better grades are a matter of personal growth, and growth takes time. The Milestones Study Skills System is a 9 month program, depending on the student's individual needs. Most students see their grades start to improve in 3 months, provided they attend Homework Club two or more sessions per week.

4.  Who are these tutors, anyway?
Most Homework Club tutors are credentialed teachers or graduate and undergraduate students pursuing careers in education, psychology, medicine, or human services. All receive intensive training in Homework Club's special methods, and all are fingerprinted and background checked.
5.  Will I get feedback?
You will receive a daily email progress report from your student's tutor. We use the ASAPlink Progress Reporting System that provide a concise email summary of your child's work that day, and any particulars you may need for follow-up. You can reply by email, or phone a parent counselor at the Homework Club office. Remember - you're not alone! Homework Club provides a Family Toolkit to help learn more about the typical issues for this age group.
6.  How much does this cost?
Tuition is on a sliding scale based on total family income. Typically, families pay $35.00 for a two- hour session. Small group tutoring is a cost-effective way to meet family needs: contrast this with the equivalent cost of private tutoring at $120 for a two- hour session.
7.  If I could afford it, wouldn't private tutoring be better?
In most cases, no. Private tutoring often ends up enabling dependency, which is a fancy way of saying that the tutor does too much of the homework and the student does too little. Also, small group tutoring allows us to build the social and behavioral skills that contribute to classroom success. Best of all, most Homework Club students make new friends.
