Case Study 1 -- Alex's Daily Progress Report and his mother's reply:
|
 |
| HWC Mill Valley Office | Student Progress Report |
| | Tutor Name: | Grantham, Linda
| | Attendance: | Yes | | Academic Performance: | Very Good | | Behavioral Performance: | Excellent | | PROGRAM EVALUATION | | Language Arts: | Weekend HW
| | Math: | Incomplete | | Science: | None | | Social Studies: | Completed | | Foreign Language: | None | | Other: | None | | Milestone: | Resourceful Learner
| | Comments: | Alex finished his history chapter review. He needs to continue to work on editing his essay which compares and contrasts Tom Sawyer's St. Petersburg with Mill Valley. He showed much more independence today and became absorbed in the process of refining his ideas and stating them clearly. We continued with the Q&A process to stimulate his thinking. The essay still needs a lot of work. He printed a copy to take home and think about. Still to do at home: math. | |

Dear Linda,
I just want to let you know what a god send you and your tutors have been for our son, Alex! He is thrilled about going to the homework club and getting his homework done and having such wonderful help. Alex especially commented on you, Linda, about what a fabulous tutor you have been for him. He feels he can understand the work better the way you talk with him and make it so much more interesting for him. I wanted to let you know my feelings and Alex’s and that I appreciate your effort and patience with him. Thank you so much!

Case Study 2 - Terry's Summer Turn Around:
A sixth grade with chronically poor grades, low self-esteem, learning differences, and moderate visual impairment, Terry was asked to compose a "personal best" creative story on the first day of Homework Club's middle school language arts summer enrichment program. View Terry's first attempt at a story.
By the end of the summer enrichment program, Terry had learned basic keyboarding and word processing skills, which made his visual impairment and learning differences feel less burdensome. He'd also completed an intensive review of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, which increased his verbal fluency and confidence. English composition basics such as descriptive language and characterization stimulated his imagination. This combination of new skills and review allowed Terry's natural creativity to shine! View Terry's final story, which he composed, typed, and edited all by himself!
